Samsung Electronics' sales in China nearly doubled in the first half of the year, up 181%
According to news on August 22, in the first half of 2024, Samsung Electronics' sales in the Chinese market doubled to 32.3 trillion won, an increase of about 181% compared with 17.8 trillion won in the same period last year.
It is reported that the growth was mainly due to the strong performance of the semiconductor business, with contributions also coming from products such as smartphones and home appliances.
SK hynix also achieved significant growth, with sales reaching 8.6 trillion won, more than doubling.
Its DRAM plant in Wuxi, packaging plant in Chongqing and NAND plant in Dalian all contributed to the growth.
Analysts believe that China's economic support policies and the sharp increase in demand for AI semiconductor HBM are the main reasons for the sales growth of Korean semiconductor companies in China.
Currently, there are only three semiconductor manufacturers in the world that can produce HBM: SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology.
In addition, the increase in demand for replacement of servers and corporate computers in China, as well as the launch of new computers equipped with AI functions, further promoted sales growth.
Samsung Electronics' sales in China even exceeded its sales during the so-called semiconductor super cycle in 2022 and 2021.
